Career Journey Highlights:

• Born, educated and attended dental school in Johannesburg, South Africa
• Graduate periodontics, University of Connecticut
• Moved to Atlanta, with a faculty position at Emory University, Dept. of Periodontics.
• When Emory Dental School closed, started a part-time faculty position at Augusta University, Department of Graduate Periodontics, still active to this day.
• Private practice, Roswell Georgia, past 40 years

Accomplishments prior to 2021:

• Deliberate interest in SFOT, Surgically facilitated orthodontic treatment, (aka PAOO, Periodontally accelerated osteogenic orthodontics)
• Lectured extensively in the US and abroad on this topic and other periodontally related topics
• Published multiple publications relating to periodontal therapy, including SFOT.
• Currently working on a book chapter and consumer book on SFOT.

When I was in elementary school, I wanted to be....
A dentist, inspired by our family dentist at that time, Dr. Willie Smith 😊

Career advice to a new young member to our community:
Never stop learning and being on the cutting edge; when busy, remember to look after yourself both physically and emotionally – Periodically “Stop and Smell the Roses.”

What is your favorite way to unplug from work or your favorite activities outside of work?
Grandkids, exercise and viewing motor racing on TV.

If you could ask other colleagues in the room one question, what would it be?
Are you fully prepared for an emergency in your life, CPR, Wills, Legal and Financial paperwork etc.
